I'm picturing a crazy chaotic street market scene, but also heard there's some seriously good street food tucked away in hidden alleys. My question is: how do locals actually navigate that street? Do you just kinda...go with the flow, or are there any secret routes/tips to avoid getting completely overwhelmed? I'm worried I'll end up wandering for hours and miss my flight!

ngl the key to charoen rat is knowing which sois are worth your time vs which ones are just residential dead ends. soi 51 has this insane grilled pork place that's been there for decades, and soi 67 leads to a hidden riverside bar with cheap beers. if you're scared of missing your flight just set a 2 hour alarm on your phone and when it goes off head straight back to the main road. the bts is obvious from most spots if you look up.

yeah charoen rat is more of a maze than a straight road, honestly. locals don't really 'navigate' it, they just know which sois connect to where. if you're worried about time, stick to the main road and only dive into a soi if you see a big crowd eating at a specific spot - that's usually a good sign. also, the footpath is basically optional here, just walk on the road edge and let the motorbikes flow around you. if you need a quick escape, the khlong boats on the canal side can get you to saphan taksin bts in like 15 minutes

just download maps.me instead of google maps, it works way better for narrow sois cause it shows every tiny alley. also dont bother with the main road, the side streets are where the actual food is. just keep a mental note of which direction the river is and youll never be truly lost

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
