So I finally hit up 71 Sports Club, the place is HUGE. Seriously, sprawling. I spent hours there, trying all the different activities... I even managed to snag a table for a drink, but the atmosphere… So I finally hit up 71 Sports Club, the place is HUGE. Seriously, sprawling. I spent hours there, trying all the different activities... I even managed to snag a table for a drink, but the atmosphere was... intense. Like, weirdly quiet between the bursts of frantic energy. It felt like a pressure cooker about to blow. My question is: What's the deal with the hushed silences? Is it just me, or is there some unspoken code of conduct I missed? It was like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for something to happen. Anyone else experience this strange vibe?

honestly i think you stumbled into the weirdest part of 71 which is the soi between the main bar and the bowling lanes. that stretch has this dead zone acoustically where sound just drops off. i asked a staff once and they said the building used to be a recording studio in the 90s and the soundproofing never got fully removed. so those hushed spots are literally architectural accidents, not some secret code. the tension probably comes from everyone subconsciously reacting to that sensory whiplash.

the quiet spots are definitely real but i think people are overthinking it. 71 used to be two separate buildings that got merged together, you can see the seam if you look at the ceiling tiles near the main bar. that weird hush you feel is just the air conditioning zoning being completely broken, the cold air pools in certain areas and kills all the ambient sound. grab a drink at the upstairs balcony bar next time, the sound carries way better up there and you'll hear the normal chaos

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
