Overstaying My Welcome?

i was there a couple weeks ago and tbh the pool is fine if you go early, like right when it opens around 8am. by 10am its already getting crowded with people claiming loungers with towels. the water itself is clean but nothing special, its just a rectangle pool with some river glimpses between buildings.

the real hidden spot is the little seating area tucked behind the bar on the left side, has these low couches where you can still see the river and its way quieter. grab a drink from the bar and just post up there instead of fighting for pool space. the pool definitely feels more like a social media spot than an actual swim these days

fwiw i live like 10 mins from there and i'd say the pool thing depends entirely on what day you go. weekdays before 3pm are pretty chill, i've had it almost to myself a couple times. but yeah weekends are a mess, people treat it like a club pool party not a hotel pool. the real move is grabbing a seat at the bar around 4:30, order a singha, and watch the river traffic instead of dealing with the pool crowd. the view from the bar is actually better anyway cause you're not staring at a bunch of phones

Went there last Spring Break. The rooftop bar is indeed fantastic for sunset, get there early though, it fills up fast. The pool...eh. It's a decent-sized pool, but yeah, it gets PACKED, especially on weekends. Not exactly "relaxing oasis" vibes. I didn't bother with a reservation; just rolled the dice and ended up hanging out by the bar area instead. Plenty of other places to grab a drink and enjoy the view if the pool's a zoo. Maybe try checking their website for any daily capacity limits or something before you go.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
