So, I'm heading to Bumrungrad International Hospital next month for a pretty serious procedure. I've heard amazing things, world-class, blah blah. But I'm nervous, obviously. Anyone know the best way… So, I'm heading to Bumrungrad International Hospital next month for a pretty serious procedure. I've heard amazing things, world-class, blah blah. But I'm nervous, obviously. Anyone know the best way to deal with post-op boredom? I'm thinking podcasts, maybe? Or are there actually things to do within the hospital? I'd really like to avoid staring at the ceiling for days. They say it's massive, but I'm picturing sterile white walls and nothing else... anyone got any tips to make this less... hospital-y?

since nobody's mentioned it yet, theres a small convenience store in the basement level that sells actual snacks and drinks, not just the overpriced hospital stuff. grab some lays and a chang water, makes the room feel less clinical. also, theres a quiet prayer room on the 3rd floor if you need a spot thats totally silent and doesnt have any medical equipment beeping, nobody bothers you in there even if youre not religious

ngl the best thing about bumrungrad is the food court on the ground floor, it's legit better than half the malls in bangkok. they have a katsu curry spot and a decent pho place, so you won't be stuck with jello cups. if ur mobile enough to shuffle around, the lobby area has these big windows overlooking the city, kinda calming to just watch the traffic on sukhumvit while the painkillers wear off. also, the nurses there are super used to bored farang patients, just ask them for a tv remote with more channels than the basic thai soaps, they'll hook u up

if you can handle a bit of noise, the pharmacy on the ground floor sells earplugs and sleep masks way cheaper than the tourist shops outside. grab those and a neck pillow from the 7-Eleven, makes the recliner chairs in the waiting areas way more bearable for napping between nurse rounds. also, the hospital has a free shuttle to the emquartier mall every hour, ask the info desk for the schedule, even if you just sit in the food court there it beats staring at the same four walls

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
