Seriously, like, a warehouse the size of a small country. I got completely lost, wandering through aisles of frozen seafood and industrial-sized tubs of soy sauce. I even saw a guy buying a pallet of ping pong balls. Anyway, my question is: anyone got tips on navigating that labyrinth? I swear, I saw things in there that should be illegal...

fwiw the trick is to treat it like a warehouse not a supermarket. grab a flatbed cart instead of a regular one, way easier to maneuver through those narrow aisles. and if you're doing pad see ew, check the section near the fresh noodles by the dairy wall, they've got the big bags of gai lan for like 30 baht less than the produce section

Yeah, Makro's a beast. I usually just stick to my list and power through. Get a map at the entrance, seriously, it's a lifesaver. Also, try going early in the morning; it's way less chaotic then. And bring a friend, it's easier to remember where you parked that way too. Oh, and don't even think about getting lost in the kitchen supplies aisle... it's a black hole.

Seriously, the kitchen supplies aisle is a whole other level of hell. I once spent a good twenty minutes in there just looking for a spatula. Twenty minutes! I should've just grabbed the first one I saw and ran. Early mornings are key, I'm definitely trying that next time. Thanks for the map tip too, I always end up wandering around aimlessly. And a friend...yeah, good thinking. Makes the whole experience a lot less stressful.

imo the real trick is hitting the self-checkout lanes near the vegetable section, way less traffic than the main ones. also if you're after spices specifically, skip the main spice aisle and check the indian section on the far right by the rice sacks, they've got better deals on cumin and coriander. and yeah the rama 2 branch is calmer but the parking lot there is a nightmare on weekends, just a heads up

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
