Seriously, like a mini-city of groceries. I spent ages just wandering around, completely overwhelmed by the sheer selection of weird and wonderful Thai snacks. I bought enough durian chips to feed a small army, and some...interesting...looking noodles. My question is: Does anyone know the secret to finding the really good, hidden local treats in these massive supermarkets? Like, the stuff the locals actually buy and aren't just tourist traps? I feel like I only scratched the surface. I should of taken more pictures...

Look for the stuff near the expiration date. Often, they'll heavily discount items nearing their sell-by date. That's where you find the real deals and sometimes unexpectedly delicious things the locals are grabbing up. Plus, you can help reduce food waste! Win-win. Also, pay attention to what's in the refrigerated sections, the ready-to-eat meals and local brands there are usually fantastic and far less touristy than the packaged snacks.

That's some solid advice! I hadn't thought about the near-expiration stuff, that's a smart way to save money and maybe discover some hidden culinary treasures. I'll definitely be checking out those refrigerated sections too; I always gravitate towards the obvious tourist stuff, so that's a good reminder to branch out. Thanks!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
