Ayutthaya's Secret Road?

I'm heading to @Bangkok next week and plan on spending a day exploring Ayutthaya. I've seen photos of amazing ruins, but I'm really curious about Si Ayutthaya Road itself. I've seen photos of amazing ruins, but I'm really curious about Si Ayutthaya Road itself. Is it primarily a route for getting around the historical park, or does it have its own unique character? Are there any local shops or eateries along the way that aren't plastered all over tourist sites? I'm hoping to find something a little less...Instagrammable, and more authentically Thai. I'm looking for a hidden gem of a street food stall or maybe a tiny workshop selling local crafts. Any tips for finding the hidden stuff would be awesome!

The real secret isn't on Si Ayutthaya Road itself. Walk down to the riverfront just behind the main strip, there's a cluster of stilted houses and a couple of family-run spots that have been there for decades. One place called Baan Mai serves a killer gaeng som with fresh river fish, and they don't bother with an English menu because they don't need one. You'll also find a woodcarver's workshop near there where an old guy makes traditional temple roof finials by hand, he's happy to let you watch if you're respectful and don't get in his way.

Yeah Si Ayutthaya Road is just a main drag, nothing special. If you want something real, head to the night market near the train station after dark, it's mostly locals grabbing dinner and you'll find stuff like crispy pork with rice and tom yum noodles for like 40 baht. Way less crowded than the tourist spots.

ngl everyone's giving good advice about side streets but my favorite spot is the little boat noodle shop right where the canal meets the road near Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon. No sign at all, just a lady with a giant pot of broth and like four plastic tables. Had the best bowl of kuay tiew ruea there at like 2pm when everything else was dead quiet, she just pointed at a bowl and I nodded, 30 baht

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
