I'm a total foodie, but I also get seriously overwhelmed by choice sometimes. Is there a "best of" list, or maybe a local's guide to navigating the street food scene there? I don't wanna miss any gems, but I also don't wanna spend three days just wandering around hopelessly. Any advice would be killer.

The thing about Charoen Rat is that it's more of a marathon than a sprint. I'd suggest starting at the Thonburi end near the Wongwian Yai roundabout and working your way south. There's a guy selling hoy tod (crispy mussel omelette) about 50 meters from the BTS exit, he's been there since I was a kid and his batter is still the best in the area. If you get overwhelmed, just pick one thing you really want to try and follow that craving, the stalls cluster by type so you'll naturally find your way to other good stuff.

ngl everyone's giving you good specific spots but nobody's mentioning the dessert game. after you've stuffed yourself with savory stuff, walk toward the wat kanlayanamit end around soi 28, there's this old cart that does khao niew mamuang (mango sticky rice) but they use a special coconut cream that's way thicker than usual. it's like 60 baht and they only make like 30 portions a day so if you see it get it immediately. also if you need a break from eating, pop into the little coffee shop on soi 24 called roong roong, they do a solid iced coffee for 40 baht and the lady there speaks decent english and will tell u what's good that day

I'd actually recommend going on a weekday evening, not a weekend. The crowds are way more manageable and you'll get better service from the vendors. Start around Soi 20 where the old lady sells the best tom yum noodles I've ever had, she's been there for 30 years and her broth is something else. If you see a long queue at a stall, just get in it, that's usually how I find the hidden gems without overthinking it. And definitely bring small bills, most places won't have change for a 1000 baht note.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
