The food was incredible, seriously some of the best Vietnamese I've ever had. But the thing is, the menu was almost entirely in Thai. I managed to order something delicious through a combination of pointing and miming, but I'm dying to know what I actually ate! Anyone know where I can find an English translation of Thuyen's menu online, or even just a list of their most popular dishes? I need to recreate this magic at home.

ngl theres no online english menu for thuyen, i looked a while back too. if u snapped a pic of ur dish maybe post it in the "bangkok foodies" fb group, someone there will prob ID it for u. vietnamese places here use a lot of northern thai influences too so it might not be pure viet recipe, like they'll toss in prik kee noo or bai makrut when u least expect it. if u remember the color or texture of the sauce that could help narrow it down

Thuyen doesn't really do an English menu, you're right. If you remember the dish's appearance, try describing it in the "Eat Thai" Facebook group, the admins are good at identifying things from photos. For recreating at home, grab some fresh rice paper and herbs from the Or Tor Kor market near Chatuchak, they have a solid Vietnamese section.

honestly i just use google lens whenever i'm at places like that. point your camera at the menu and it'll translate most of it on the spot. it's not perfect but you'll get the gist of what you ordered

if you're trying to recreate it at home tho good luck. that place uses some serious wok hei and fish sauce ratios that are hard to nail unless you've got a gas burner and know a vietnamese auntie. maybe check out the small viet market on sukhumvit soi 50/1 for the right ingredients

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
