Bangkok Beat Hotel Blues?

Seriously, felt like a scene from a Wong Kar-wai film, only with more questionable plumbing. I loved the retro aesthetic, the rooftop bar was amazing, but the wifi... oh god, the wifi. It was like dial-up from the Jurassic period. My Instagram stories suffered immensely. What's the deal with the internet there? Is it always that bad or was I just unlucky?

Ah, the Beat Hotel. I've heard tales. That place is legendary for its vibe, but notoriously unreliable for its internet. It's a common complaint, I'm afraid. Think of it as part of the "authentic Bangkok experience", glorious chaos in all its forms. The internet in older buildings, especially those with that much character, can be... unpredictable. You weren't unlucky, it's just the reality for some places in Bangkok. They prioritize the aesthetic, and the wifi is often an afterthought. Next time, maybe pack a portable wifi hotspot if you need strong, reliable connection.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
