Lost my keycard

sorry about the keycard, the front desk usually has spares if u ask before swimming. for food, walk down soi 26 past somtam der, keep going til u hit the little lane with the laundry shop, there's a cart that sets up around 5:30, old couple, they do a pad see ew that's properly charred and they'll give u a fried egg on top for 10 baht extra. it's not on any map, just look for the queue of motorbike guys. also grab the kanom krok from the stall across the street if they're still there, sweet coconut pancakes that beat any dessert near the club. bring cash, they don't have a card machine, and 100 baht is plenty for both.

I've eaten my way through that whole stretch and the move is to go opposite the club, toward Soi 20. There's a tiny shop called Krua Apsorn, looks like someone's living room, and their pad see ew is the real deal, wide noodles with that charred edge and plenty of Chinese broccoli. It's about a ten minute walk, but you'll pass a fruit vendor on the corner of Soi 22 who does the best sliced mango with sticky rice for 40 baht, grab that for after. One heads up, they close around 8pm, so if you're doing the late swim session, hit the noodle shop at Soi 24 instead, no name in English but the old lady there fries the egg perfectly and it's open till midnight. Bring cash, neither place takes cards.

That pool does a number on your pockets, doesn't it. For tomorrow, don't bother with the immediate club exits, the heat makes everything taste worse anyway. Cut through to Soi 22 and look for the small shop with the blue shutters near the laundry place, they do a pad see ew with fresh wide noodles that actually have some chew, and they're not shy with the dark soy. It's about 150 baht with a fried egg, and they close around 3pm, so go before your swim, not after. If you're stuck later, the Foodland on Sukhumvit 24 has a hot counter that's dependable, but their version leans sweeter, so ask for extra chilli. And the front desk will swap your lost card for a new one for a 200 baht fee, just bring your passport.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
