Makro seems like the place to get bulk ingredients, but I'm worried about the quality. Has anyone ever bought massive quantities of mango sticky rice from here? Was it any good? I don't want to end up with a mountain of mediocre desserts. I'm hoping for something amazing, you know, the kind that makes people go "wow"!

The vendors at Khlong Toei market have been doing bulk orders forever and they're usually much better than the supermarket route. Walk down the wet market section past the pork stalls and you'll find a few ladies with massive aluminum trays of pre-cooked sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. They'll sell you a whole tray for around 300 baht and the texture is perfect because they steam it fresh every few hours. For the mangoes, grab the nam dok mai from the fruit wholesalers near the back entrance, they'll cut you a deal if you buy a full crate.

ngl you're overthinking this. go to yaowarat after midnight, there's a guy near the old siam commercial bank who sells nothing but mango sticky rice from a truck. he's been doing it for decades and will pack you whole foam boxes if you order ahead. the coconut cream he uses is so thick it almost caramelizes on the rice. just call him on line the day before, he speaks enough english to take the order.

I've done this before for a wedding reception. Instead of fighting with bulk ingredients, try contacting the vendors at Or Tor Kor market directly. Many of them have Line accounts and will take large orders with a deposit and deliver the morning of your event. The nam dok mai mangoes from there are consistently excellent, and they know how to scale up the sticky rice without it turning into a gluey mess. You'll pay maybe 40-50 baht per serving instead of 20, but your guests will actually finish their plates.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
