honestly the biggest thing nobody tells you is that soi cowboy is basically a live music venue crawl if you pick the right spots. suzie wong's and baccara have totally different vibes, suzie's is more old school with actual live bands playing classic rock, way less pressure than the street-facing bars. also if you're tired of singha prices, pop into the 7-eleven at the entrance for a beer before you walk in, it's like 40 baht vs the 150+ they charge inside. the best time to go is actually around 8pm when it's just lighting up but not packed yet, you can actually breathe and watch the transformation happen

I've never seen someone describe the feeling of Soi Cowboy that well. The biggest thing people miss is that the whole street has a weird honor code about eye contact. Lock eyes with someone for more than a second and they'll take it as an invitation, but looking down at your shoes the whole time makes you look scared. Best bet is to keep your gaze casual and smile if someone catches you looking, then move on. Also, 7-Eleven runs between bars are totally normal, no one judges you for ducking in to grab a cheap water or another beer.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
