Not bad, but not mind-blowing either. My friend got the Tom Yum soup and that was delicious, though. The real kicker? They were completely out of iced tea. Iced TEA! In this heat?! What gives?! So my question is: Do they usually run out of basic stuff like that?

It's not that unusual for Nai Kao to run out of iced tea, actually. Their kitchen is tiny and they brew it fresh in batches, so if a big group comes through and orders five glasses at once, that's it until the next batch steeps. I've seen it happen around 6pm more than once. For a pad see ew that's consistently good and never runs out of drinks, walk down to Thong Lor soi 9 and look for the cart with the red awning near the 7-Eleven. They use a proper charcoal wok and the owner keeps a full cooler of iced tea that he refills himself every hour.

soi 38 stall is solid but honestly my go-to for pad see ew is the place near on nut bts, the one under the skytrain tracks. it's called something like "pad thai prachak" but don't let the name fool you, their pad see ew is way better. wide noodles with a good char and they use dark soy sauce that actually sticks to the noodles instead of pooling at the bottom. never had them run out of drinks either, and they're open late. just bring cash it's like 50 baht

I've been to Nai Kao a handful of times and the iced tea thing is hit or miss. They run out more often than you'd expect for a spot that size, usually by late afternoon. For pad see ew with consistent sauce-to-noodle balance, try the stall at the end of Soi Sukhumvit 38, the one with the yellow sign. It's open until midnight and they've never let me down on drinks or food.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
