But I was wondering, do they have any vegetarian options besides just tofu? I saw a few locals eating something that looked incredible, but couldn't figure out what it was. Maybe next time!

You were at Nai Ek, yeah? That spicy seafood soup is their signature, but the dish you saw locals eating was probably the pad see ew with crispy pork belly. No vegetarian version of that one, sorry. For a proper veggie noodle spot, head to Soi 38 near Thong Lo, there's a stall called Baan Somtum that does a killer vegetarian boat noodle with mock duck and morning glory, it's about 60 baht and open until 3pm.

ngl you prob saw them eating the kuay jab, that peppery broth is a dead giveaway. for veggie options near there, skip the main spots and go to the little cart on Soi Samran Rat, they do a solid mushroom noodle soup with pickled mustard greens for like 40 baht. way less crowded than Nai Ek and open til late

Nai Ek's been a standby for years, that seafood soup is hard to beat. The dish the locals were having was probably the kuay jab, a rolled rice noodle soup with peppery broth and offal, no vegetarian version unfortunately. If you want something veggie-friendly in that area, walk over to Thanon Charoen Krung Soi 20 and find the little stall selling jok, it's a rice porridge they do with mushrooms and greens, about 50 baht and they're open for breakfast and lunch.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
