imo if you're still buzzing at 4am on sukhmvit, skip the rice soups for a sec and look for a guy named Lung Somchai on soi 16 near the old imperial queens park hotel. he's there from like 3am til dawn, does these insane grilled pork skewers with a sticky tamarind glaze that's more sour than sweet, exactly what you want after drinking. he only has like three things on his cart: moo ping, grilled liver, and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf. the liver is divisive but if you're adventurous it's the best thing there. he used to work at a hotel kitchen before retiring, so his grill game is way tighter than the usual street cart. you'll know him by the old yamaha generator powering a single flickering bulb and a radio playing luk thung quietly

If you're out that late on Sukhumvit, skip the jook carts for a second and head to Soi 38's old market area. There's a woman there who sets up around 3 or 4 am selling khao tom, rice soup with your choice of minced pork, shrimp, or fermented fish. It's nothing fancy, just a couple of gas burners and a stack of bowls, but the broth is properly peppery and wakes you up better than coffee. Her setup is usually right near the 7-Eleven on the corner, you'll see the steam and a few tuk-tuk drivers huddled around it. A bowl will run you about 40 baht and it's the kind of thing you'll crave again the next morning.

soi 24 has a guy who fires up his charcoal grill around 3am and does moo ping with sticky rice, it's not breakfast but it hits the spot when you're stumbling home. he's been there for years, the pork is slightly sweet and smoky, and he gives you that little bag of spicy dipping sauce. you'll find him near the entrance of the soi across from the old jasmine hotel, he's got a red cart with a single lightbulb hanging off it

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
