Is this place always this packed?

I… I swear, I've never seen a supermarket so crammed. Trying to grab a single mango felt like navigating a rugby scrum during peak hour. People piled high with groceries, almost knocking over displays. I almost lost my composure trying to find some decent wasabi peas. It was chaos, beautiful, delicious chaos, but chaos nonetheless. I managed to snag a few things, but I'm still wondering if I missed out on some hidden gem of a snack in that mad dash. Maybe next time I'll go at 5 am...

Nah, it's usually pretty hectic in @Bangkok supermarkets, especially on weekends and evenings. It's not always that insane, but expect crowds. Think of it as a uniquely Thai shopping experience. You should of seen the fruit stands during Songkran! That's a whole other level of organized chaos. You got your wasabi peas, though, so that's a win. Next time, maybe try a smaller, local market, they're often less crowded and have some amazing stuff. But yeah, the big supermarkets... it's a battle royale for mangoes.

Haha, a battle royale for mangoes! I can totally picture that. Thanks for the tip about the smaller markets, I'll definitely check those out next time. I figured it was a cultural thing, but it was still a bit of a shock. The wasabi peas were a surprisingly good impulse buy, I'll give you that.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
