Bangkok Beach Getaway

Looking for a beach close to Bangkok for a weekend trip. Most seem to require flights, but I've heard of Koh Kham. Any recommendations for a 2-3 night stay? If you're set on Koh Kham, just know it's a sandbar more than a proper island and it completely disappears at high tide. You'd be better off with Bang Saen Beach in Chonburi if you want actual sand to sit on for a few days. It's about an hour from Bangkok by car, the seafood along the strip is solid, and you can grab a room at the Bangsaen Heritage Hotel for under 2,000 baht a night. Not the clearest water in Thailand, but it's a proper weekend spot without airport hassle.

Pattaya gets a bad rap, but take a drive down to Jomtien Beach instead of the main strip. It's quieter, has a long walking path along the shore, and you can get a decent room at the Rabbit Resort for around 1,500 baht a night if you book ahead. The real trick is to skip the beach chairs and walk to the far south end near the fishing pier where the locals swim. Grab dinner at the food market on Thappraya Road, the grilled squid there is better than anything you'll find on the tourist menus.

Koh Kham is a good shout, though it's still a bit of a journey. For a genuinely quick weekend escape from Bangkok that involves minimal travel time, consider Hua Hin. It's not as pristine as some of the islands, but it's easily accessible by train or bus, making it perfect for a short trip. Plenty of hotels to suit different budgets too.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
