Where to buy oil painting supplies? (Medium, thinner, gesso, etc)

I've so far failed to find these supplies in the art stores I've tried. What's the go-to place here for painters to get supplies? Thanks I've so far failed to find these supplies in the art stores I've tried. What's the go-to place here for painters to get supplies? Thanks

misterart on sukhumvit soi 71 is worth a look if you're out this way, they stock a decent range of gamblin and old holland stuff that most shops dont carry. the owner used to teach at silpakorn so he actually knows his oils, not just acrylics. their thinner prices are a bit steep though, i usually grab that at the hardware store on the corner of soi 71 and 69 instead, they carry generic turpentine for like 60 baht a liter. also if you need raw pigment for mixing, the morning market on on nut road has a spice stall that sells ground pigments on the downlow, just ask for "color powder for painting"

If you're closer to Siam, head up to the art supply floor at B2S on the top of CentralWorld. It's not as specialized as the dedicated art shops, but they stock the basic Liquitex and Winsor & Newton lines consistently. For things like odorless mineral spirits or specific gesso brands, I've had better luck at the small shop inside the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre on the ground floor near the cafe. It's tiny and easy to walk past, but the owner brings in a lot of professional-grade mediums that the bigger stores skip.

honestly if baan pradit doesnt have what u need try the art supply shops near silpakorn university on na phra lan road. there's a few clustered around there that cater to students so they carry all the basics like gesso and thinner at decent prices. the one right across from the main gate has a better selection of mediums than the smaller ones further down. also check out the weekend market at chatuchak, there's a stall in section 24 that sells imported oil paints for way less than retail, just gotta haggle a bit

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
