What are your special occasion restaurants?

I am coming for NYE and want to go to a nice dinner on the 31st, anything between $50-$100 per person, no fancy rooftops..just some really nice thai food! nah I'd check out Khao on Ekkamai, it's a bit more modern but still super authentic thai. the setting is chill, like a nice casual spot with good lighting and the food is legit - their tom yum kung and pla tod are standouts. you'll prob spend around 60-70 bucks with a drink and it's not a rooftop so no hassle with the NYE crowd up there. book a week ahead at least though

honestly skip the usual tourist spots and go to Ruen Urai on Soi Si Phraya. it's tucked inside a old house with a garden and the menu is proper central thai food, their gaeng kiew wan and hor mok are unreal. prices are reasonable even on NYE, you'll be well under your budget with drinks. just call them directly to book, their online system is a bit dodgy.

For that budget you can eat really well in Bangkok on NYE. I'd look at Baan Phadthai on Charoen Krung, it's in an old shophouse with a relaxed vibe and their pad thai is some of the best in the city, but the whole menu is solid. Another option is The Local on Soi Sukhumvit 23, they do a proper khao soi and gaeng som that tastes like someone's grandmother made it, and the setting is a restored wooden house. Just book ahead, NYE fills up fast even at mid-range spots.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
