DMK to sukhimvit best route?

I'll be flying into DMK airport in a few weeks what's the best way to get to Sulhumvit? Just simply get a grab? Or is their alternative routes? honestly if ur staying anywhere near the phrom phong or thong lo side of sukhumvit, just take the a1 bus to mo chit then grab a motorbike taxi from there. it's like 20 baht and cuts through traffic way faster than the bts, plus u skip the walk from the station to ur hotel. the bus drops u right at the bts entrance so it's not hard to find the bike guys, they're always hanging around. only downside is if u got a big suitcase, then yeah pay for the grab, but if ur backpacking it, this is the move. also dmk is way less chaotic than bkk, u'll be out the door in 10 mins not 45

The A1 bus to Mo Chit is solid if you're light on luggage, but if you land during rush hour, the bus can crawl through traffic just like a car would. An alternative is the SRT red line train from DMK to Bang Sue, then swap to the MRT blue line and ride it to Sukhumvit station, that puts you right at Asok which is the heart of it. It'll run you maybe 60 baht total and skips the worst of the road jams, though you do have to haul bags through two station transfers. For a first-timer, I'd say just pay for the Grab and save your energy, the airport's not that far but the heat and luggage hassle makes the 300 baht worth it after a flight.

If you've only ever flown into BKK, just know DMK is way closer to the city, so you're not looking at that crazy 45-minute slog. The A1 bus to Mo Chit is the budget move and it's genuinely easy, but honestly if you're coming in with a checked bag, the 300 to 400 baht for a Grab is the call, it'll drop you right at your hotel door. One thing nobody mentions: the taxi queue outside the arrivals door is fine too, just insist on the meter, it'll land around 250 baht to Asok. I'd skip the SRT red line unless you're staying near the MRT side of Sukhumvit, the transfers with luggage under that heat are miserable.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
