They frame it as a deposit to prove you're a serious seller, which is absurd because you're the one selling something, not buying.

I've noticed the group names usually follow a pattern like "Bangkok Expat Community Buy & Sell" or "Thailand Foreigner Trading Group" with a generic photo of a city skyline or a smiling white guy in a collared shirt. If you check the member list, half the accounts were created in the last month.

The safest play is to just ignore anyone who mentions a group and only deal with people who ask for your Line ID directly. Even then, meet at a BTS station like Ekkamai or a mall like CentralWorld where there are security guards and cameras everywhere.

yeah that's a classic line group scam, been going around bangkok for a couple years now. once you join the group they'll have a few fake accounts pretending to be interested buyers, then they'll hit you with some "verification fee" or shipping deposit nonsense

the red flag is always when they want to move to line and then immediately push you into a group chat with strangers. real buyers just message you directly and arrange pickup at a bts station or something

block and report them on both platforms, fb marketplace is full of these groups now especially for electronics and furniture

ngl the sexbot concern made me laugh but no, it's just the standard line group scam that's been hitting bangkok marketplace listings since like 2022. they're after your id photos and personal details, not your body

what nobody mentioned yet is that some of these groups are tied to sim card registration fraud. they use your passport selfie to register prepaid sims that get used for call center scams in myanmar or cambodia. i know a guy who had his photo show up on a police report for a scam line account he never created

the real test is to ask them what mrt station they live near. if they can't name a real one or say something vague like "near the city" it's 100% a scam. bangkok people always name their nearest bts or mrt stop within the first few messages

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
