Is there a dinner cruise with genuinely good food?

Regardless, my wife and I would like to take her parents on a cruise. They're Thai, lived in Bangkok for decades and never been on a boat, any boat, ever, not even a river ferry. It will be fun for them to see the city at night like that.

But I'm here to ask if anyone knows of a particular cruise that actually has good food? I always hear about how bad the buffets are, is this just a universal constant: death, taxes, and bad dinner cruise buffets?

The hotel cruises are your best bet for decent food, like the ones from the Peninsula or Shangri-La do a proper sit-down dinner not a buffet. They cost more but your in-laws will appreciate the quality and the view of Wat Arun lit up at night is way more memorable than the cheesy live music boats.

honestly the food on the big tourist cruises is all the same sad buffet, but if you want something better try the pranakorn or the ayothaya, they do sit-down thai set meals not a buffet. still not michelin star but wayyy better than the usual stuff, your in-laws would prob appreciate the real food

if your in-laws have never been on a boat at all, skip the big charter cruises and look into the ones run by the hotels along the river. the mandarin oriental's "bamboo bar" is a proper sit-down meal, not a buffet, and the food is legit good thai food, not the watered-down tourist version. it's pricier, like 2500-3000 baht per person, but for a special occasion with your wife's parents who've never done this, it's worth it

another option is the wang lang area boats, they do a more local vibe with a set menu, way less crowded, and you get to cruise past the grand palace all lit up. honestly for older thai folks who've lived here forever, they might find the big party boats kinda tacky, so something quieter would feel more special

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
