Where are the varans hanging at Lumphini park?

Which area of the park do the lizards gather to? I'd really love to spot them, respectfully, not selfie sh*t

Edit: thanks everybody

honestly just walk the loop trail, the big ones love sunning near the benches along the southwest side by the water. theyre not shy, esp around 4-6pm when the heat drops a bit. if u see a crowd of tourists with phones near the bridge, skip it, go further down the path past the exercise equipment, that's where the big bois chill. also check the storm drains near the east entrance, they hide out there when it gets too hot.

ngl the best spot is the old concrete bridge near the north exit, the one that looks kinda sketchy. they stack up on the ledges underneath, especially late morning when it's still shady. also the little canal that runs parallel to the main path, not the lake itself, they patrol that water like they own it. just sit still on the bench by the big banyan tree and wait like 10 mins, one will cruise by.

fwiw the morning shift is way better, around 7-8am before the joggers scare everything off. the big drainage canal that runs along the west fence, not the lake, that's their highway. you'll see them hauling ass from one grate to another, prob heading for the food scraps near the food stalls by the main gate. just park yourself on the bench facing that canal, no need to hunt them down.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
