I have been wearing mostly basic backpacker and dri-fit type clothes but I will be staying longer in Bangkok and want to look better when going out for nightlife, but still want to be comfortable and not spend too much.

If you're near the On Nut area, check out the night bazaar at Lotus's. They have a whole section of knockoff designer pieces and trendy streetwear for men, usually around 200 to 400 baht. The quality is hit or miss but you can find some good printed shirts and lightweight jackets that work for club dress codes. Also consider hitting up the Uniqlo at CentralWorld on a weekday, they often have sale racks with their linen-blend shirts for under 600 baht and the fit is way cleaner than the baggy backpacker stuff.

honestly skip the malls and hit up Bobae market near the river, it's a wholesale spot so you gotta dig but the deals are insane. i grabbed a couple decent club shirts there for like 150 baht each, just check the stitching before you buy. also if you're near Thong Lo, there's a little shop called "The Garage" on Soi 55 that does relaxed linen pants for around 600 baht, way better for the heat than jeans and still looks sharp enough for a night out

For clubbing looks that won't break the bank, check out the outdoor stalls at Platinum Fashion Mall. They've got a huge selection of slim-fit button-ups and patterned shirts for around 300-500 baht each. The fabric is usually a polyester blend so it breathes okay and doesn't wrinkle easily if you're out all night. If you need better fitting jeans or trousers, head to the weekend market at Chatuchak and look for the "Saphan Kwai" section near Soi 2 - they have local brands that copy trendy cuts for a fraction of the price.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
