I have never been to Thailand and I know that it is rainy season, but the forecast shows thunderstorms and rainfall daily and I read some news about potential flooding. Anyone there now and can tell me what the weather is like?

Also, I'll stay for 2 weeks and if anyone has recommendations for cheap gyms for tourists / park workouts etc., or yoga classes, would highly appreciate it. Will stay in Khao San.

idk who's telling you it's a washout but that's not really how it works here. you'll get like 20 minutes of insane rain then it's sunny again, just gotta time your walks right. the flooding news is usually about specific suburbs like don muang or bang sue, not khao san area, you'll be fine.

for cheap gyms near khao san, check out the boxing gyms on rambuttri street, they do day passes for like 100 baht and have basic weights. otherwise just run around santichaiprakarn park by the river, that's free and the views are nice. for yoga, wild rose yoga on soi rambuttri does walk-in classes for 300 baht, pretty chill vibe.

yeah the rain is super predictable here tbh, it'll pour for like an hour around 4-5pm then stop just as fast as it started. khao san itself is on higher ground so flooding isn't really an issue there, just grab a beer at one of the bars on soi rambuttri and wait it out

for workouts, there's a public fitness station in santichaiprakarn park with pull-up bars and dip stations, totally free and open 24/7. if you want a proper gym, muscle factory on khao san road does week passes for 500 baht, it's small but has everything you'd need. yoga wise, i'd skip the touristy studios and try the free session at the buddhist temple on soi chana songkhram every sunday morning, it's donation based and way more authentic

also pro tip, grab a poncho from 7-11 for like 30 baht instead of an umbrella, you'll thank me when the wind kicks up during those afternoon storms

It's rainy season in Bangkok, so yes, you're going to see thunderstorms and rain pretty much every day. That doesn't mean it's a washout, it usually comes in short bursts in the late afternoon or evening, then clears up. Flooding is a thing in some low-lying

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
