Is there a car culture in Bangkok?

There's definitely a car scene but it's more scattered than a single big show. If you're around in December, check out the Car Passion Club events on Facebook, they do weekend meets at places like the Esplanade on Ratchada or even at the Muang Aek area in Pathum Thani. I'd also keep an eye on the B-Quik parking lot near the Ekamai BTS, I've seen random gatherings of classic cars and modified Hondas there on Saturday nights.

honestly yeah there's a decent car scene here but it's not as in-your-face as cambodia's big events. the big one is the bangkok international motor show in march/april at impact muang thong thani, but since you're coming in december you'll miss that. check out the "bangkok car meet" groups on facebook tho, there's usually something at centralworld or seacon square on weekends. also ptt gas stations near rama 9 sometimes have random mini meets for jdm cars and modded pickups, just drive around after 9pm and u'll spot them

if you're into the tuning and drift scene, check out the bangkok drift meetups at the muang thong thani parking lot on some weekends, it's more grassroots than the big shows. also, the rca area on friday nights has a mix of supercars and exotics just hanging outside the clubs, not an official meet but easy to spot if you walk around 10pm. there's a small but dedicated group for old toyota coronas and datsuns that meets at the santi chai prakarn park near phra sumen fort on the first sunday of each month, more of a chill vintage vibe than loud mods

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
