What's so good about Yen Akat?

honestly, it's more about the vibe than the restaurants. the soi is wide and leafy, feels way less congested than most of thonglor or ekkamai. you can actually walk around without dodging motorbikes on the sidewalk, which is rare in bangkok

the condos there are also older and bigger for the price. like, you can get a 60sqm one-bed for what'd get u a shoebox in thonglor. and the little alley soi yen akat 2 has a few hidden wine bars that don't blast music, so it's quiet enough to chat. not for everyone but i get why people settle there

It's the grid layout. Yen Akat is one of the few places in Bangkok that actually follows a proper street grid, so you can navigate without getting stuck in dead-end sois. That makes it way easier for deliveries and getting around, plus the sidewalks are actually usable. The area also has Sathorn's old money feel without the Sathorn prices, and you're close enough to Lumpini Park for a proper run. The French school nearby doesn't hurt either, that's probably half the reason.

oh great, another "why do expats like this specific soi" question. because it's one of the few places in bangkok where you don't feel like you're living in a construction site or a traffic jam. the air is marginally less toxic and you can actually hear birds instead of tuk

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
