Hi! M28, new to the city. I used to live in the alps, so I am big on outdoor activities. Been struggling a bit to find information and people with shared interests.

Anybody with recommendations for: Hiking Camping Climbing Freediving Spearfishing Mountainbiking/downhill

I work long hours 5 days a week, so it's kind of difficult to be ready and organized for the weekend.

Any recommendations, suggestions, groups / clubs are more than welcome.

fwiw for freediving and spearfishing, check out the "bangkok spearos" group on line. they do day trips to Sattahip most weekends, it's like 90 mins from town so you can leave at 5am and be back by 3pm. they usually have a spare gun or two if you dont own one yet. just bring your own mask and fins.

for hiking, i'd skip khao yai on your short weekends and try the trails at Khao Sam Muk in Chonburi instead. it's a small hill with a temple at the top, takes like 45 mins to summit but the view over the gulf is solid. you can be there and back in half a day no stress. also there's a little crag nearby for bouldering if u bring pads.

honestly for hiking and climbing you're gonna want to look at routes outside the city but still doable in a day. Khao Yai is the obvious one but it's a solid 2 hour drive each way, so that's your whole saturday gone. for something closer, try the trails at Khao Kheow open zoo area, there's some decent hills and you can grab a quick climb at the little crag near the reservoir. it's not the alps but it scratches the itch.

for freediving and spearfishing you're in luck, the gulf side has some spots that are fine for a day trip. I'd check out the freediving thailand group on fb, they do weekend trips to Koh Tao or Koh Phangan pretty often and they're chill about late signups. they usually meet at a bts station early saturday morning so you dont need to stress about gear or planning.

mountainbiking is tricky with long hours honestly. the best trails are up in Khao Yai or down near Hua Hin but that's a full weekend commitment. there's a small group that rides the green lung (bangkok's big park) on sunday mornings, it's mostly flat but they do some loops through the forested bits. search for "bangkok mtb sunday ride" on insta. you might find it a bit tame coming from downhill but it's something.

yeah for climbing specifically check out the "bangkok climbing community" line group, they organize trips to Krabi and Tonsai on long weekends. also there's a small bouldering gym near thong lo called rockdom that's open late so you can squeeze in a session after work. they post about weekend carpools to the real rocks sometimes

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
