I'm looking for a suit, doesn't have to be custom, any recommendations? Will be here for 5 days.

I just want a suit, that's off the rack with some quick tailoring. Kinda like a men's wearhouse or something.

I realize that a custom suit isn't really possible to get in a short time frame, and likely to get ripped off. But is it a good idea to get an off the rack suit with some quick tailoring? Or likely to get ripped off for that too?

fwiw you dont need to worry about getting ripped off at the malls, prices are fixed and they have receipts. the department store tailors are fine for basic alterations just make sure you specify you want the sleeves shortened from the shoulder not the cuff. takes a bit longer but looks way better. if youre near centralworld grab a suit from the his line at suite 101, they have a sale on the navy ones right now for like 6500 baht and the fit is modern without being too skinny. just bring a collared shirt to try on with it so you can see the actual proportions

The department stores people mentioned are solid, but check out the suit section at Zen Department Store in CentralWorld too. They carry a brand called Army of None that does modern cuts for around 7,000 to 9,000 baht, and the alterations counter on the same floor handles sleeve shortening and hemming by the next afternoon. The key is to go during a weekday morning when it's quieter so you can actually try on a few jackets without feeling rushed.

honestly for a quick off the rack suit, just hit up uniqlo at centralworld or siam paragon. their kando line is surprisingly decent for the price, like 3-5k baht, and they'll do basic alterations in-store. if you want something a bit nicer, check out robinson's department store - they have a brand called bsc that's not flashy but the wool blends hold up fine. get the trousers hemmed and the jacket sleeves adjusted, that's usually done by the next day. skip any tailor shop that mentions "same day service" on the street, that's a red flag for rushed work with questionable fabric

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
