I made contact with the hotel and they told me they can't send it here because it contains batteries. I am unable to re-enter Thailand as my visa was single entry and I have run out of ideas. I'd really appreciate if anyone coming to Malaysia from Thailand would be able to help me as it was a gift from my dad and has a lot of memories I hadn't yet had the chance to back up to my iCloud. If anyone is able to help or has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

honestly the courier route is your best bet but make sure it's not DHL, they're a pain with batteries here. try Kerry or J&T Express, they're way more chill about it and cheaper too, the hotel just needs to pack it in the original box if you still have it. another angle, check if there's a Thai consulate in KL or Penang, sometimes they have a notice board or a WhatsApp group for stranded travelers, someone's always making that run. if you're in KL, the Thai embassy on Jalan Ampang might have tips too, they see this all the time. and tbh, even if the hotel says no to shipping, ask them to call the local post office, Thailand Post does accept small devices if you remove the battery, but iPads are sealed so that's a no go, but worth a shot asking anyway.

Yeah that's a rough spot to be in. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is checking if your travel insurance covers this, some policies have a "return of belongings" clause that'll pay for a courier or even a quick visa run. Otherwise, if you're in KL, try posting on the expat forum in the "Barter & Trade" section, I've seen people there organize pickups for a few hundred baht just to cover their gas on the drive down.

oh man that's rough. honestly i'd try the facebook group "bangkok to malaysia" or something similar, people post there all the time offering to bring stuff for a fee. also check if your hotel can hand it to a bus company like the VIP buses that go from bkk to penang, they sometimes do parcel delivery if you talk to the right person. not sure about the battery thing but worth asking.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
