Hi!

I already posted a thread in a different thailand tourism thread a few days ago asking recommendations for hotels. It was very insightful and I am very much thankful for the people who suggested hotels.

TLDR: Christmas vacation with mid-60s parents, 2 hotels with 5 days in each, prefer shopping, spas, relaxing, budget is ~฿10,000/night

I have narrowed down our choices:

First 5 days we will be staying in:

Amari Bangkok -- is this a good hotel?

The last 5 days will be between these hotels:

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit -- major concern still is its dated interior but I love the pool!

Conrad -- major concern is the location, I feel like it's not that vibrant

Carlton Hotel

Shangri-La Bangkok

Any thoughts on these options? If you guys have any recommendations most especially thai hotel brands I am very much open for changing these options. But so far I have these options.

amari bangkok is solid for the first 5 days, the location on rajdamri is great for walking to siam paragon and centralworld, plus the bts chit lom station is right there. your parents will appreciate the direct access to the skywalk so they don't have to deal with the heat and traffic

for the last 5 days, skip the shangri-la unless you really want a riverside view. it's a bit of a hassle getting anywhere from there because you're stuck taking taxis or the shuttle boat. the sheraton grande is dated but the staff there are pros and the pool really is that good. i'd actually suggest looking at the renaissance ratanakosin instead, it's a thai brand with a rooftop that has a killer wat pho view and the rooms are modern. the area around there isn't as shopping-focused but it's quieter and more relaxing for older folks, plus the river taxis make it easy to get around

if you're set on sukhumvit, the carlton is probably the best bet for your parents. it's newer than the sheraton and the service is really attentive, plus the phrom phong area has emquartier which has a nice spa and good food options without being as crowded as siam

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
