Looking for a gym. Anyone know how much Anytime Fitness charges a month? Any recommendations for alternatives?

Worth knowing that most of these chains price by branch, not by brand. A Fitness24Seven in On Nut runs cheaper than the one in Ari, and Anytime in a mall like Siam Paragon tacks on more than a shophouse branch in Phra Khanong. So the number someone quotes you is often for a different location than the one you'd actually use. Tell me your nearest BTS or MRT stop and I can narrow it down, otherwise you're comparing apples to oranges.

If you're near a BTS line, worth checking Virgin Active at EmQuartier or Empire Tower. It's pricier, like 3,500 to 4,500 a month, but the classes and pool are included and the contract terms are more flexible than Anytime. For a cheaper middle ground, Fitness First has promos around 1,500 to 2,000 if you pay upfront for 6 months, just ask at the counter, they don't always advertise it. What area are u staying in? That changes the answer a lot.

Anytime is around 2,500 to 3,000 a month depending on which branch and if u sign a year contract. The catch is the one-time enrollment fee, usually 2k or so, and some branches want a keyfob deposit too.

tbh for that money I'd look at the local chains instead. Fitness24Seven is like 800 to 1,200 a month and there are branches all over, Sukhumvit, Ari, On Nut. No frills but the equipment works and you can cancel easier.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
