Lost Thai License Now on Tourist Visa - What Do I Do?

I've now given up my condo and residence because I was going on a travel around SEA using the Thai license to make it easier for all of those countries. However, I lost it on the way in Cambodia unfortunately.

My plan was to come to Ubon Ratchathani and sort it out, but they told me they need to see the residence certificate which I can only get from Bangkok, but since I have no place anymore, and only a receipt of notification document - I'm not sure I'll be able to get this.

Is there a way around this? I have come back on a tourist visa? For instance could I get a hotel for a couple days, get a TM30 and then residence certificate in Ubon, and as a result get a license, or is that not possible?

I have the QR code license, photocopies of my old license etc.

honestly the easiest way might be to just do a border run and get a fresh tourist visa from a nearby country, then come back and get a new license from scratch in ubon. the land border crossings near ubon are savannakhet or pakse in laos, both do tourist visas same day if you have photos and cash. once you're back with a fresh 60 day stamp, the DLT in ubon is pretty chill about accepting a hotel TM30 as proof of address, but call them first to confirm because the staff there speak decent english and can tell you exactly what they want. photocopies of the old license won't help much, they need the original lost report from cambodia or a police report if you filed one.

If you still have the receipt of notification document, that might actually work if you push a little at the Bangkok DLT office. I've seen people get a new residence certificate from the immigration office at Chaeng Wattana using just a hotel booking confirmation and a TM30, even without a long-term lease. You don't need a condo again, just a hotel that will file the TM30 for you which most do if you ask at check-in.

For Ubon specifically, the DLT there is a bit more by the book than Bangkok, so they'll likely want a proper residence certificate from immigration, not just a hotel receipt. Your best bet might be to stay at a place like the Ubon Hotel or Laithong which are used to dealing with foreigners and will do the TM30, then go to Ubon immigration with that plus your passport and tourist visa entry stamp to get the certificate. Just be prepared for a half-day wait at immigration.

Hotels in Ubon might refuse to do a TM30 for a short stay, so check first. The license office is strict about that residence certificate.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
