Recommendation for Mother's Day River Cruise? It's for my gf's mom, so I want it to be very special. 🥺
honestly for something special i'd look at the Chaophraya Princess dinner cruise, they do a nice setup with live music and the food is pretty solid. book the one that leaves from the Asiatique pier, it's less crowded and the view of Wat Arun lit up at night is gorgeous. just make sure you get the upper deck seats, the lower one gets too loud with the engine noise
The White Orchid River Cruise does a mother's day special that's pretty underrated. They have a photographer on board who goes table to table taking portraits with the river and temple backdrop, which moms tend to love for the photo album. Booking the 8pm slot from River City gives you the best lighting for those shots right when the sky turns that deep blue.
if you want something more intimate than the big tourist boats, check out the Loy Nava dinner cruise. it's a smaller traditional teak rice barge, way less crowded and the food is proper Thai set menu, not the buffet chaos. they leave from the River City pier around 7pm and you get to see all the landmarks without feeling like you're at a wedding reception. costs a bit more but for a mom's treat it's worth it
also fwiw the Grand Pearl cruise has a really good live band if she's into old school Thai pop, my gf's mom loved that one. just avoid the weekend shows if you can, they get packed with families and it loses the romantic vibe
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
