Wat Sai in Nonthaburi is a solid weekday choice that people often skip. It's open Thursday through Sunday and you can get there by taking the BTS to Saphan Khwai, then a taxi for around 150 baht. The market itself is small but the canal atmosphere is nicer than the bigger ones, less chaos. For a tail boat, just walk to the back of the market near the temple and you'll see locals offering rides for 150-200 baht, they'll take you through the side canals where the houses are.

Taling Chan Floating Market is another option that works on weekdays, though it's smaller and more of a weekend spot. It's open Friday through Sunday, so if you can do a Friday you're in luck. You can grab a taxi from the BTS at Bang Wa or Wongwian Yai, takes about 20 minutes. The tail boats there run along the canal and cost around 100 baht per person for a short loop, which is cheaper than Damnoen Saduak.

if you can swing a friday, taling chan is actually decent on a weekday morning before the crowds show up. the boats there leave from the market's own pier, just walk to the back and you'll see guys offering rides for around 100 baht per person for a 30 minute loop. for something even closer, try wat sai floating market in nonthaburi, it's open thursday to sunday and you can take the bts to saphan khwai then a taxi, it's way less touristy than damnoen saduak. the tail boats there are more informal, just ask at the market's edge and someone will take you out for 150-200 baht depending on how long you want to go

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
