Why the prices are up?

I visited bangkok two years ago and I see that the prices are noticeably up, even some times it seems that the price doubled. Even taxis are not that cheap any more. What is the reason for that? the baht exchange rate is a big one, it's been hovering around 33-35 to the usd when it used to be 40+ a couple years back. so even if a meal stayed 100 baht, it's costing you more in your home currency. also a lot of the old-school songtaew routes got cut or raised fares, so you're stuck with taxis or grab which have surge pricing now. if you're around sukhumvit try the khlong boats instead, they're still 20 baht and way faster than sitting in traffic

honestly it's a mix of things. tourism came back hard after covid and everyone jacked up prices to make up for lost time, plus the baht is stronger than it was two years ago. street food is still cheap if you know where to look but yeah, taxis especially have gotten bad with the meter refusal and flat rates. if you want a deal now, try the BTS or MRT even for short trips, or use grab bike instead of cars.

covid messed up supply chains everywhere, bangkok included. a lot of small vendors closed during lockdown and never reopened, so less competition means higher prices now

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
