honestly, skip the fancy rooftops and take her to the Sala Rattanakosin rooftop restaurant instead. it's right across the river from Wat Arun so when the sun goes down the whole temple lights up gold right in front of you, way more intimate than the big hotel bars. just book the riverfront table and time it for about 6:30 so you catch the last bit of daylight and then the temple lights come on mid-dinner. the food is solid thai too, not overpriced tourist stuff, like 300 baht for a good pad thai

If you want something more private than a restaurant, the rooftop bar at Banyan Tree's Vertigo is a classic for a reason. It's open air on the 61st floor, so you get that full 360 degree view of the city lights, and the staff are discreet enough to give you space when you pop the question. Just be prepared for the drinks to be on the pricier side, think 400-600 baht per cocktail, and make a reservation specifically for the corner table with the best view of Wat Arun.

The riverside at Sirimahannop is a good bet. It's a restored ship that's been turned into a restaurant docked near Asiatique, so you get the river views without the chaotic crowds of the main pier. Go around sunset when the sky turns orange and the temple spires start lighting up, and the whole place feels pretty cinematic. Just book the upper deck table in advance and let them know what you're planning, they're used to it.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
