Artist Alley/Market/Convention norms?

I like to table at indie/fan art markets myself in my own country so it's right up my alley.

I'm just wondering if any local regulars could advice me on 1. typical prices for merch like prints/pocas/acrylic charms/totes/shirts etc. 2. the usual expected payment method!

EDIT: Also convention-acceptable attire. Like would it be chill if I walked through the streets/mall towards the venue with a somewhat colorful nerdy T-shirt. If it adds to the nuance, I am also SE Asian so I don't register as obviously foreign and might even pass as a local.

I want to set a budget for myself and prepare adequate cash if necessary since here, most merchants don't do card payments, and it may be similar there. And to know if stuff like if exact change is expected, or if people more commonly pay with like a local online payment service or something. BASICALLY just get a feel for what artists would typically expect from customers to see if I can manage. Thanks all!

You'll find the pricing pretty reasonable compared to what you'd pay back home. For IFEXPO, most artists price A5 prints around 150-200 baht, A4 around 250-350 baht, and acrylic charms typically 100-180 baht. Tote bags usually sit around 250-400 baht depending on the design complexity.

Cash is your safest bet as a visitor. While PromptPay QR codes are everywhere for locals, artists at these events are used to foreign customers paying with cash. Try to bring mostly 100 and 20 baht notes, 1000 baht notes can be annoying for small purchases. Some vendors near the BTS stations or MBK Center might do card but convention artists usually don't bother with the extra fees.

The nerdy t-shirt is completely fine anywhere in Bangkok, even in the malls leading to the venue. Thais are pretty used to convention-goers in all sorts of cosplay and themed gear walking through Siam Square and the surrounding areas, especially during event weekends. You'll probably see other attendees in similar shirts heading the same direction.

For IFEXPO specifically, most artists take cash or Thai QR payment (PromptPay), but as a foreigner you'll probably just want cash since setting up the app is a hassle. Prints run around 100-300 baht, charms and small items 50-200 baht, and shirts usually 350-600 baht.

You're totally fine wearing a nerdy t-shirt anywhere in Bangkok, nobody cares at all especially around convention areas. Just bring small bills if you can, artists really appreciate not having to break 1000 baht notes for small purchases.

yeah what everyone else said is spot on. one thing i'd add is that for shirts and bigger items, some artists at IFEXPO actually do limited pre-orders or have a queue system so if u see something u really want, grab it early cause popular stuff sells out fast especially on day one. also for the t-shirt thing, honestly half the people in siam on a weekend are wearing anime tees or cosplay, ur blending right in

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
