Which tailor to go for in Bangkok?

I see Patrick & CO, Galaxy Tailors and Michael Tailors rated well in so many articles on Google. Can anyone please share your experience with them? My friend suggested I ask on Reddit to get more personalized experiences.

Would appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

both replies cover the basics well but one thing they didn't mention is timing. if you're in bangkok for less than a week you're gambling with any of them. patrick's needs at least three fittings minimum and they won't rush it. galaxy can do it in three days but the quality drop is noticeable if you push them.

i had michael tailors do a linen blazer last year and the stitching started pulling after two wears. their customer service was good about fixing it but i wouldn't trust them for something structured like a suit jacket. patrick's is the only one of the three i'd let cut a canvas chest piece honestly.

for a first suit just go to crown tailor on soi 11. they're less famous but they do a proper half-canvassed suit for 15k baht and they'll walk you through the process without the pretension. bring your friend who knows suits if you can, having a second pair of eyes on the basted fitting makes a huge difference.

honestly skip the articles and just go walk around the tailors in the sukhumvit area. patrick & co is solid but their prices have gone up a lot post-covid, like 25k baht for a basic two-piece now. michael tailors is fine for business suits but their casual stuff is meh.

the real trick for first timers is to bring a photo of a suit you actually like the fit of, not just a magazine shot. tailors here cut differently than western shops so having a visual reference saves you a lot of back and forth. also ask to see the actual fabric roll before they cut, some shops try to swap you into lower quality stock if you're not paying attention.

I've had suits made at both Patrick & Co and Galaxy. Patrick's is the more polished experience with better fabric selection and their fitting process is meticulous, but you're paying for that. Galaxy does good work for the price point and their turnaround is faster if you're on a tight schedule.

The thing nobody mentions is that the real test isn't the first fitting, it's the second one when you bring the jacket home and wear it for a full day. Both shops will do post-purchase adjustments if needed, but Patrick's is more willing to re-cut a sleeve that doesn't sit right.

If it's your first bespoke, I'd actually recommend starting with something less ambitious than a full suit. Try a shirt or a sport coat first. The tailors in Bangkok use different cutting systems and you need to learn how to communicate what you want. A full suit is a lot of money to spend on a learning experience.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
