My partner (22F) and I will be in BKK from July 12-17 and we would like to get to know people, locals or fellow travelers.

What's the best way/where is the best place to make this happen?

try a muay thai class at khlong toei market area, there's a small gym called sityodtong that does drop-in sessions for like 400 baht. you'll be paired up with locals and travelers for pad work, and grabbing a post-training beer at the 7-eleven across the street is where the real conversations happen. it's a sweaty, hands-on way to bond with people without the bar scene pressure

If you're looking for a low-key spot where conversation flows naturally, try the rooftop bar at Tichuca on Soi Sukhumvit 61. It gets busy around sunset so you'll end up sharing space with people, and the drink prices are reasonable for a place with that view. For a more grounded vibe, the walking street markets like Jodd Fairs on Rama 9 have communal seating areas where couples and solo travelers end up chatting over grilled seafood. Just grab a table near the beer stalls and someone will probably ask what you ordered.

Honestly, some of the best chats I've had in Bangkok were just at a random street food stall. Pick a busy one with those low plastic stools, sit at the shared table, and it's super easy to ask what someone's eating or if a dish is good. The energy at places like the ones around Soi Rangnam is perfect for that.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
