Does anyone know any jewelry makers? Looking to order a custom gold pendant.

Looking to get a custom gold pendant made. I imagine there's got to be lots of custom jewelry makers here, but my initial searches came up with very little. Looking to get a custom gold pendant made. The Old Siam is fine but the gold there leans a bit touristy in my experience. For custom work I'd head to the second floor of the Phahurat textile market area off Chakraphet Road, the Indian goldsmiths there do intricate filigree and stone setting that the Yaowarat shops usually won't touch, and they're used to working from a photo. Get a quote in writing with the weight and purity stated, 96.5% is the local standard for gold here rather than the 18k you might be used to back home. Turnaround is usually 7 to 10 days and you'll pay a deposit of around 30%.

if u want something more modern/designer-ish try the small studios around Ari or Thonglor, some are run by ex-fine-arts grads & they'll do CAD renders before casting so u can tweak the shape first. i used a guy off Soi Pridi 2 last year for a gold signet, took about 10 days & he charged by gram plus a flat work fee. downside is they usually don't keep much stock gold so u might pay spot price that day

Jewelry trade in Bangkok mostly runs through the gem district around Mahesak and Charoen Krung, near the old Hua Lamphong area. Walk into any of the shophouses on Mahesak Soi 1 or 2 and ask, most of them do custom work even if they don't advertise it. For gold specifically, the Chinatown shops along Yaowarat are your best bet, they've been casting custom pieces for generations. Bring a photo or sketch and expect a week or two turnaround, price depends on the day's gold weight.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
