I recently replaced my Macbook Pro (2017) with a new model and wonder what to do with the older (fully functional) model.

Does anyone have experience selling their macbook in Bangkok? Especially if its not one of the newer models.

I tried the 'trade-in' option on the apple thai website but it seems each country has their own requirements and in Thailand they'd accept 2018 as the oldest model. US and Europe would accept 2017 models tho. Trade in value (based on apple) would be 8,000 baht.

It would be a shame to leave it sitting in the corner.

If you're okay with a bit of a wait, you could try listing it on Facebook Marketplace or in one of the Thai buy/sell groups. A 2017 model in good condition usually goes for around 10,000 to 12,000 baht there. Just meet up at a mall or a BTS station for safety.

try fortuna town center or fortune town it's on ratchadaphisek near phra ram 9 mrt the whole floor is laptops and phones. a 2017 model won't get a premium but it's still usable so you'll get more than 8k baht easy. just walk around and get a few quotes before you decide. if you want zero hassle there's a shop called iStudio on the same floor that buys used macs too but they'll lowball you a bit

I'd check out the shop called Banana IT or Advice on the second floor of Central World. They sometimes buy older models for parts or refurbishing, might give you around 9k to 10k baht depending on condition.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
