Where is the BEST area to stay in Sukhumvit?
I still enjoy staying in Sukhumvit but… Usually I stay between Nana-Phrom Phong when I am in Sukhumvit. I have found it has gotten increasingly more expensive on my last few trips in these locations.
I still enjoy staying in Sukhumvit but was looking for new places that might be a bit cheaper without being miles away from the nightlife areas. I was thinking of possibly staying around On Nut which I haven't stayed before.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!
honestly On Nut is a solid pick if you want to save some baht. the BTS is right there and you can be at Thong Lo in like 10 mins for nightlife. the area around the On Nut BTS has a bunch of new condos and some decent street food too, way cheaper than Nana or Phrom Phong.
just keep in mind the last train from the main nightlife areas is around midnight so you'll be taking a taxi or grab back. a taxi from Thong Lo to On Nut is usually 80-100 baht depending on traffic, not bad at all. there's also a few decent local bars around On Nut soi 77/1 if you want something chill without going far.
If you're open to going a bit further out, Ari is worth a look. It's not Sukhumvit but it's on the BTS green line, about 15 minutes from Nana, and the vibe is totally different. You get a lot more local food spots and cafes for half the price of a Phrom Phong condo, and there's a decent little nightlife strip on Ari Soi 4 with bars that stay open late.
The trade-off is you won't have the same concentration of clubs or foreigner bars, but if you're okay hopping on the BTS for that, you'll save a good chunk. A Grab from Ari to Thong Lo runs around 150-200 baht depending on traffic.
on nut's fine for budget but if you want a bit closer to the action without the phrom phong prices try ekkamai. it's one stop closer to thong lo so nightlife's walkable and there's a ton of cheap eats on the side streets. condos are a bit older but way cheaper than the fancy towers
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
