Where does japanese gather in bangkok?
There's a Japanese association library on Sukhumvit 39, near the Phrom Phong BTS. It's quiet and a bit formal, but they have a small reading room where people actually chat in Japanese. The staff are usually happy to help if you ask them something in Japanese first.
For something more social, check out the Matsuri market at Benjasiri Park. It happens a couple times a year and draws a big Japanese crowd, but you'll have to look up the exact dates since they change.
honestly, thonglor is your best bet. loads of japanese expats live around there, so soi 55 has izakayas and karaoke spots where you'll hear japanese more than thai. fwiw, the fuji supermarket on soi 18 also has a little community board with language exchange flyers sometimes.
if u want a more casual vibe, try japanese town near phra khanong bts. there's a few tiny bars tucked away on soi sukhumvit 26 that are full of salarymen after work. prob cheaper than thonglor too.
Yeah, Thonglor's the obvious one but there's also a solid group that hangs around Ekkamai. There's a Japanese temple called Wat Dhammamongkol on Soi Ekkamai 10 that draws a crowd for events, and the nearby supermarkets and bookstores get a lot of Japanese families on weekends.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
