Venus or nightclubs that play deep-house/trap or anything with groove?

As per title.

Most nightlife venues either play commercial top 40 hits or EDM or Techno but yet to find a venue that plays deep-house or trap. Is that a thing in Bangkok?

yeah so the thing is bkk nightlife is super segmented, the deep house scene lives on the west side of the river more than u think. check out Studio Lam on Charoenkrung, it's a vinyl-only bar with a killer soundsystem, they do these sunday sessions that are pure groove, think dubby house and afro edits. not a club, more of a sit-down vibe but the music is spot on.

for trap, ur only real shot is the monthly-ish party at Neverland in Ekkamai, it's a small lounge that sometimes books bass-heavy locals, but it's not consistent. honestly i'd follow Bangkok Bass Collective on IG, they throw random warehouse things in Thonburi that lean trap and footwork, but it's all word of mouth, u gotta be ready to jump when they post.

also if u want groove without the club scene, Phra Kanong has a few speakeasies like Rabbit Hole that play deep house at a low volume, good for chatting but not for dancing. and if ur here during a festival weekend, Wonderfruit always has a proper house stage, that's where the trap DJs come out too.

since everyone's already covered the usual spots, let me throw in a curveball. there's a small place called Lamphu House near Khao San that does a sunday afternoon thing, not the backpacker chaos, but a tucked away courtyard with a proper soundsystem. they play a lot of dub, deep house, and sometimes grime if the guest is right. it's more of a daytime hang, but the acoustics are surprisingly good for such a tiny space.

for trap specifically, i'd say your best bet is to catch a night at Whiteline on Sukhumvit 23. it's a tiny club, capacity like 80 people, but they book a lot of bass-heavy locals and the sound is punishing. they're not consistent with genres, one week it's footwork, next it's jersey club, but when they get a trap guy in, it goes off. check their IG stories the day of, they always post the set times like an hour before doors.

also, don't sleep on the smaller hotel bars. the bar at the Siam Hotel, called Siam Bar, does a mellow but groovy set on friday nights, more on the Balearic and downtempo side. not for dancing, but if you want that deep house texture without the club crowd, the seating is comfy and they pour a strong negroni. just don't show up before 10pm, it's dead until then.

If you're open to a slightly different flavor of groove, check out the Friday night session at Tropic City on Soi 23. It's a tiny rum bar, but the DJ there spins a lot of Latin-tinged house and cumbia edits that hit that same rhythmic itch, plus the crowd is mostly locals who actually dance instead of filming. Not trap by any stretch, but the low-end is fat and the vibe is warm.

For something closer to trap, your only realistic option is to time a visit with a guest slot at Blaq Lyte in Thonglor. It's a lounge that usually does R&B and hip-hop, but every couple of weeks they bring in a bass producer and the room turns into a proper sweatbox. Follow their Facebook events, they only announce the genre-specific nights a few days out, and show up before midnight or you'll be waiting outside in the heat.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
