German or Thai work contract for a 120000 Baht job?

I could earn 120000 Baht as a programmer here locally. It is a German company and I just had a job interview today which I think went pretty well.

The CTO also offered me to get the German contract and be paid out in Euro. Then also the German laws would apply. I am relatively new in Bangkok, just lived here for one year. I mostly just did freelance work where I earn on average about 5000 Euro, so around 200000 Baht.

But since I really want to be more integrated into the Thai culture, including the work culture, being more social, not having stress with clients as a freelancer, I am thinking to take this job offer.

My plan is to live here forever and afaik the taxes are much lower and paperwork is easier to handle here than in Germany. So would you recommend me to take the Thai work contract instead of the German one?

tbh i'd go thai contract. the tax difference is real - thai personal income tax tops out at 35% while germany can hit 45% plus solidaritaetszuschlag. and if ur planning to stay forever, thai social security contributions actually get u something useful here like free government hospital care.

one thing nobody mentions is the visa situation. with a thai contract and work permit, ur path to permanent residency gets way simpler. german contract means u'd be on a non-b visa through the thai entity anyway, but the paperwork might be messier since they'd have to prove u as a local hire.

the salary difference is also worth doing the math on. 120k thb vs 5k eur is about a 40% pay cut from ur freelance rate. but if stability and social life matter more than max income, that thai contract gives u proper labor protections under thai law - severance pay, overtime rules, the whole deal. plus u can still freelance on the side if u want extra cash.

just make sure the german company sets up the thai payroll properly. some try to do weird stuff with contractor arrangements to avoid social security, which can bite u later

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
