Jeweller selling 14 or 18 Karat gold?

Sena Jewelry near Asok is worth a visit, they're one of the few places that actually specializes in 18K for daily wear rather than just offering it as an afterthought. Their pieces run around 2,500 to 3,500 baht per gram depending on the design, and they'll talk you through the alloy options so you know exactly what you're getting. The staff there are used to foreign customers asking for lower karat gold, so you won't have to explain yourself five times.

i'd skip yaowarat for this tbh, the smaller gold shops on soi nana (the one near chinatown, not the tourist one) will have 18k but they usually don't display it. you have to ask the older lady behind the counter and she'll pull out a separate tray from under the glass. also try the weekend market, chatuchak section 2 has a few stalls that do custom 14k rings for like 1500-2000 baht all in, just expect to wait a week for pickup

The jewelry floor at Central World has a few shops like Pandora and local brands that carry 14K and 18K rings, though you won't find them in the main gold section. The 96.5 stuff is everywhere there, but if you go up to the third floor near the escalators on the east side, there's a small shop called Aurora that does mostly 18K and even some 14K pieces for export. Their rings start around 4,000 baht for simple bands, and they'll engrave or resize on site in about an hour.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
