I'm travelling to Bangkok on Tuesday and my local pharmacy has messed up my medication, as a type 1 diabetic I need insulin but won't have enough to cover my stay and can't cancel my trip there.

If anyone knows how and where to get insulin in Bangkok id appreciate your help a lot, all info online seems to be a bit old now

yeah you can get novorapid pretty easily at most big pharmacies like Boots or Watsons, just show your prescription or the box you have and they'll sell it over the counter no problem. id stick to branches in malls or central areas like Siam or Sukhumvit to be safe

honestly just hit up any Watsons near a major bts station, the one at Asok or Chit Lom usually has it in the fridge behind the counter. bring your empty box or a photo of your prescription, they're chill about it but might ask where you're staying. worst case the pharmacy at Samitivej Sukhumvit is open all night and they'll sort you out no questions, just a bit pricier like 1,600 baht a vial

You'll want to head to a hospital pharmacy rather than a random Boots or Watsons if you want to be absolutely sure they have Novorapid in stock. Bumrungrad or Bangkok Hospital in Sukhumvit both have proper 24-hour pharmacies and are used to dealing with travellers who need specific insulin brands. Bring your old box or prescription and expect to pay around 1,200 to 1,500 baht per vial without insurance.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
