But on Google it says closed for today, are these times updated or are they open?

honestly the fridays thing is real but it's not like clockwork. i've been there twice this month, first friday it was packed, second friday half the stalls didn't show. the longan spot is usually there by 6pm but if it rains even a little they pack up early. your best bet is to dm their facebook page around 3pm, they're pretty responsive and will tell u straight up. if u do make the trip and it's dead, there's a soontaree bar just down the road on sukhumvit 33 that does a decent longan soda, not the same but hits the spot.

google is usually right for swu nightmarket tbh, that place is super inconsistent with their hours. the longan drink stall only shows up fridays and even then it's hit or miss after 9pm, so if it says closed today i'd trust it. maybe check their ig story before heading out, they post updates there more often than google. if you're desperate for longan, the one at chatuchak weekend market is similar but sweeter, just saying

yeah those google hours are usually off for swu, they barely update it. friday is the day but even then it's a gamble, the longan lady sometimes takes random weeks off. i'd just go before 8pm, that's when she's most reliable. if it's a no show, the night market on ratchada is open and has a similar drink but with more ice, not as good tho

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
